- Goal
Games are often decided in the seconds after the ball changes team. This 4v4 rewards both sides of that moment: attack immediately after winning the ball, and press immediately after losing it. Four mini goals give plenty of options to counter quickly.
Objective
Counter-attack quickly after winning the ball, and counter-press immediately after losing it.
Organisation
- 30 × 25 m area with two mini goals at each end line, near the corners.
- Two teams of four (a fifth player can act as a neutral).
- The coach counts seconds out loud after every turnover.
How it works
- Normal 4v4: each team attacks two mini goals.
- A goal scored within 6 seconds of winning the ball counts triple.
- If a team wins the ball back within 5 seconds of losing it, it earns a point.
- Restart from the coach after each goal to keep the tempo high.
- 4 × 3 minutes with 90 seconds rest.
Coaching points
- After winning the ball: first look forward. Is a quick shot or pass possible?
- Attack the goal on the side where the opponent has fewest players.
- After losing the ball: the nearest player presses immediately, the others close the passing lanes.
- If the counter-press fails after five seconds, recover into a compact shape.
Progressions
- Reduce the transition window to 4 seconds.
- Add a goalkeeper and a big goal at each end instead of mini goals.
Regressions
- Extend the window to 8 seconds.
- Add a neutral who always plays with the team in possession.
Variations
- 5v5 with a middle zone: the counter-press must happen in the zone where the ball was lost.
Key principles
- First thought after winning the ball: forward.
- Counter-press as a unit.
- Recover if the press fails.
