This rondo connects keeping the ball with both transitions. The team that wins the ball must get it out of pressure and into the second grid with a quick, accurate pass. The team that loses it must react immediately, sending two players across to defend in the other grid. The rhythm is high, so keep sets short.
Objective
Keep the ball in a 4v2, and react quickly to a change of possession: secure the ball after winning it, and counter-press after losing it.
Organisation
- Two 10 × 10 m grids, 2 m apart.
- Two teams of four. Team A (4) keeps the ball in grid 1 against two players from team B.
- The other two players from team B wait on the sides of grid 2.
How it works
- Team A keeps the ball in grid 1 (two-touch limit) while two B players defend.
- When a B defender wins the ball, they must pass it into grid 2 to a waiting teammate.
- The two B defenders join their teammates in grid 2 to make four; team A sends two players across to defend.
- The play continues in grid 2 as a 4v2 with the roles reversed.
- A point for 8 consecutive passes, a point for a successful transition pass. 4 × 3 minutes.
Coaching points
- When you win the ball, look up first: the transition pass must be quick but secure.
- The two players who lose the ball must be the first to sprint across and press.
- Waiting players in grid 2: stay wide on the sides to receive the transition pass.
- In the rondo: support angles close to the ball and a player always on the far side.
Progressions
- Transition must happen within 3 seconds of winning the ball.
- One-touch passes in the rondo.
- The team that loses the ball can counter-press in grid 1 before the pass is played.
Regressions
- Unlimited touches.
- Make the grids 12 × 12 m.
Variations
- Three teams of four: the team that loses the ball twice in a row rests.
Key principles
- Win it, secure it, move it.
- Counter-press immediately.
- Width in possession.
